ABOUT US
History Collective Programme
The aim of Mathematical High School is to develop knowledge and educate students in mathematics and science, as well as in other areas. The School is committed to generating and preserving knowledge. It provides its students with an education that combines academic study and the excitement of discovery. It tries to develop in each student the ability and passion to work wisely, creatively, and effectively. These goals require uniqueness both in teaching methods and teaching staff.

The methods are unlike those usually used in other high schools and are based on the idea that every student is an active participant during every lecture. We try to avoid one way communication but encourage every student to participate actively and directly in the teaching process. Knowledge is thus actively acquired and may be applied efficiently and effectively. In this way we are committed to enabling our students to work creatively and contribute greatly to the development of their abilities and talent which will be used in the development of their country.

In Mathematical High School the new methods in teaching are constantly introduced. The accent is placed on communication of all kinds, consulting and advising. Teaching process is supplemented by practical experiments and computer simulations.
These teaching methods’ characteristics call for highly experienced and professional teaching staff. Since its foundation the School has maintained a close contact with the University of Belgrade and other Institutes. The Schools current teaching community includes over 60 teachers, third of which are full-time professors of Belgrade University or members of scientific institutes.

Everything mentioned above is attainable because of the specific organization of the School.

After finishing primary school students sit for the entrance exam which consists of a written exam in mathematics and is particularly prepared for those who want to continue their education in our school. The competition is very hard because there are usually three applicants for one place.

This school year we have started the experiment of enrolling students from primary schools, precisely after their sixth grade (12-13 years old). There are 50 students in the seventh grade now divided into two classes.

Each class of secondary school has no more than 24 students which makes the application of the methods possible. Due to a relatively small number of students in the classroom there is a possibility for individual student - teacher contact. Small groups are organized consisting of 3-5 students for mathematics, geometry, physics and computer science allowing the teaching to be carried out through dialogues and discussions of problems rather than through monologues. In addition, the School has the most modern equipment.

Apart from the scheduled classes additional courses in mathematics and physics are also available using the latest computer technology. The realization of this program and the style of teaching enable excellent communication, fulfillment of specific needs of talented students and creation of conditions for optimal development of the studies of exceptional and individual talents.

These are the reasons why the School has a great reputation and has received many awards since it was established.
